February 19, 2018
Rosalind Brewer was born in 1962 in Detroit, Michigan, where she attended Cass Technical High School. She continued her education at Spelman College and received her bachelor’s degree in chemistry before going on to the University of Chicago Booth School of Business, Stanford Law School, and The Wharton School as well. (I see you smarty pants!)
Rosalind started as a scientist and eventually worked her way to president of the Global Nonwovens Sector in 2004 during her 22-year career with Kimberly-Clark Corporation.
In 2006, she headed to Walmart to become the regional vice president of operations in Georgia. She then became the division president of both Walmart’s Southeast and East markets. By 2012m Rosalind was named president and CEO of Sam’s Club, and with these titles, she became the first African American to head a division of Walmart. (AYYYYYYYE!) And, she doubled the amount of organic products sold at Sam’s Club!
But you already know ya girl wasn’t finished.
Rosalind is now the first female and first African American to hold the position of Chief Operating Officer (COO) of ya favorite large chain coffee company. That’s right, good ol’ Starbucks! She was given this position in September 2017.
She was ranked one of the World’s 100 Most Powerful Women, as well as one of the Most Powerful Black Woman of 2013 by Forbes; one of the 50 Most Powerful Women in Business by Fortune Magazine; one of the Most Powerful Working Moms of 2013 by Working Mother; the 64th Most Powerful Women in the world by Forbes in 2014; she ranked as the 15th Most Powerful Woman on Fortune 500’s list in 2015; and 19th in Fortune’s 2016 50 Most Powerful Women list.
